Day 2: TaipeiArrive and transfer to The Sherwood Taipei for 2 nights. (N)
Day 3: TaipeiGuided city tour of Taipei, including visits to the National Palace Museum, National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Martyrs’ Shrine and Longshan temple. (B)
Day 4: Train to Taroko National ParkTake the train from Taipei to Hualien, where you will be met at the station and transferred to the Taroko National Park. Stay 2 nights at the Silks Place Taroko, a luxury hotel set on a mountainside within the national park. (B)
Day 5: Visit the Taroko gorgeFull day to explore the remarkable Taroko gorge. Visit the Eternal Spring shrine, the Swallow Grotto and the Siangde temple, or take a walk along the scenic Shakadang trail. (B)
Day 6: To Taitung via the East Coast Scenic AreaDrive south through East Coast National Scenic Area to Taitung, stopping en route at various scenic viewpoints, the rock formations of Xiaoyeliu and Shitiping, and the Amis Folk Centre. Stay at the city centre Sheraton Taitung Hotel for 3 nights. (B)
Day 7: Explore the East Rift ValleyToday you will have time to explore the East Rift Valley with a private guide and vehicle, an area home to some of Taiwan’s aboriginal groups including the Amis, the Kavalan and the Bunun. Visits include the National Museum of Prehistory, the Bunun Tribal Leisure Farm and the Luye Plateau. (B)
Day 8: Green IslandTake a day trip by ferry to Green Island, 33km off the coast near Taitung, which has some of Taiwan’s most beautiful scenery and a rugged terrain created by ancient volcanic activity. During your visit you can relax in the Zhaori hot springs, walk along coastal trails and visit the Bitoujiao lighthouse for views out over the Pacific Ocean. (B)
Days 9-10: KentingDrive south to the Kenting National Park, which shares the same latitude as Hawaii and is the southernmost point of Taiwan. The park protects an area of low-lying hills, limestone caves, forests and coastline. Stay 2 nights at the Caesar Park Hotel, which has a range of resort facilities including a private beach area. Days 11-12: KaohsiungDrive west to the port city of Kaohsiung and stay 2 nights at The Ambassador Hotel. The following day, take a guided tour of the city visiting Shoushan mountain, Chijin Island, a walk along Ren-Ai River and a visit to Ruei-Fong night market to browse souvenir stalls and sample local snacks. Day 13: TaipeiTransfer to the train station and board a high-speed train for the journey north back to Taipei. Overnight at The Sherwood Hotel. (B)
Day 14: Fly to the UKTransfer to the airport and fly back to the UK. (B)
