Day 2: Arrive in BeijingArrive and transfer to Hotel Cote Cour Beijing in Beijing for a 2-night stay. This traditional courtyard house is situated in an ancient hutong (an old district of narrow streets). (N)
Day 3: BeijingMorning guided visit to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, followed by a stroll through the historic Liulichang district and the hutongs nearby. (B, L)
Day 4: Great Wall of ChinaLeave Beijing for a journey north to the Great Wall at Jinshanling, a quiet and dramatic section of the wall. After some time to explore and walk on the wall, continue to the small village of Mutianyu located near an accessible section of the wall. Here you will stay overnight at the Brickyard Eco Retreat, where hotel accommodation has been established in the grounds of a former traditional tile glazing factory, with rooms that provide views of the Great Wall. Days 5-6: PingyaoTravel on China’s new high-speed rail network to the ancient city of Pingyao. Stay 2 nights at Jing’s Residence, a charming boutique hotel housed in the former home of a Qing dynasty-era silk merchant. The beautifully decorated rooms showcase both modern artworks and Chinese antiques. The following day you will be taken on a walking tour of Pingyao’s ancient town centre, strolling along streets lined with Qing architecture and past shops with hanging lanterns. (B)
Days 7-8: Xian & the Terracotta WarriorsContinue by high-speed train to Xian. This former Silk Road trading city retains some of its historic character, laid out in a grid pattern within huge perimeter walls. On arrival you will be met and transferred north of the city for a 2-night stay at the award-winning spa hotel Angsana Xian Lintong, which lies in the shadow of Lishan mountain, just 15 minutes from the legendary Terracotta Warriors. Spend the following day discovering this stunning archaeological site with an expert guide. (B)
