Located along the Taedong river in central Pyongyang, the Koryo Hotel is one of the largest hotels in North Korea, and possibly the best in the city. Built in 1985, the hotel entrance is striking with a 9-metre-wide dragon's mouth entrance leading into a lobby decorated with mosaics of North Korean symbols. The hotel's 500 rooms are occupied rarely, except during the April birthday celebrations for Kim Il Sung. Hotel facilities include a gift shop, gym, swimming pool and bar. A revolving restaurant sits at the top of one of the hotel's twin towers.
