An icon of Malaya's boom years leading to the second world war, the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur came to be the place for glamorous social events, government receptions and the residence for prominent international visitors. Built in 1932, this colonial building is now documented as a national heritage site under the Malaysian Antiquities Act, and was fully restored in 2012 to feature 300 luxurious rooms and suites. The accompanying Tower Wing, in art deco style, houses the reception, Opus One Restaurant, a gymnasium and swimming pool. The Majestic Spa, in a separate building, comprises seven treatment rooms, a relaxation area, and its own swimming pool. True to the spirit of colonial times, a second two-storey building called the Smoke House contains a bar, grooming room, cigar room, private dining area with a chef on call, a screening room and card room.
