Standing on the hill leading to Shiroyama park and the remains of Takayama castle, surrounded by greenery, Hoshokaku ryokan is approximately a 3-minute walk from Jinya early morning market, the old town and other popular sightseeing spots. An authentic Japanese-style inn, it prides itself on its tranquil atmosphere, with imposing ceiling beams and a passageway with tatami mats leading off to the hall. Japanese-style rooms display the beauty and skill of local Hida craftsmen, while the western and combined Japanese-western rooms offer more modern comforts. Natural hot spring onsen baths are available for guests' use, with separate communal women's and men's open-air baths, one of cypress wood and the other of stone. Two private open-air baths on the fifth floor, with views over the city of Takayama, are also available for guests.
