The Asadaya Ryokan is more than 140 years old and the most famous ryokan in Kanazawa. With only five elaborate rooms designed in the 'sukiya' Japanese architectural style, the ryokan has limited guests and prides itself on high levels of service. Each en suite room is adorned with antique works of art hung in the 'tokonoma' recess, which characterises all Japanese rooms, and looks out onto a 'tsubo niwa' (small courtyard garden). Dinner here is traditional Kaga cuisine, using seasonal fish and produce, with refined crockery including antique Japanese earthenware. The ryokan also has a superb collection of sword guards from the Edo period.
