The Ecolodge Bukit Lawang Cottages offer 40 rooms in a range of styles, set in the rainforest bordering the Gunung Leuser National Park, on the banks of the Bohorok River. The lodge is run by a non-profit organisation known as PPLH-Bohorok (The Bohorok Environmental Education Centre), whose revenues are reinvested into community development, social programmes and local nature conservation. Rooms at the lodge are spacious but simple with minimal amenities, and include a ceiling fan, locally made bamboo furniture, and a 'guci' (traditional Indonesian bucket shower). Food is organic and produced in the lodge gardens.
