Rimba Ecolodge is located the province of Central Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. Reached by boat from the port of Kumai, the Lodge provides a base from which to explore the surrounding rainforest and Tanjung Puting National Park. The reception area, office, restaurant and rooms are connected by series of covered boardwalks, set on the edge of the gently flowing Sekonyer river. Accommodation is in 32 basic but clean and comfortable rooms. The Diamond, Emerald and Amethyst rooms have air-conditioning, ceiling fan, western shower with hot water, toilet and mosquito nets. Meals are available in the lodge restaurants, and drinks in the lounge (no alcohol permitted). From the lodge excursions are made by klotok (wooden boats) to a number of orang utan feeding stations in the Tanjung Puting National Park. The most famous of these, Camp Leakey, was established in 1971 by Professor Birute Galdikas, a student of Professor Louis Leakey after which the camp is named. On walks through the rainforest other wildlife can also be seen, including gibbons, butterflies and many species of bird, and at night, tarsiers, glowing mushrooms, fireflies and owls. Proboscis monkeys and macaques are often seen from the lodge itself.
