Accommodation rating: Exceptional
Located in the village of Kedewatan near Ubud, the luxury Amandari resort is perched on an escarpment high above the winding Ayung river gorge. The resort layout follows the design of a traditional Balinese village, with pebbled walkways linking the thatched-roof suites to the communal facilities. Each of the resort's 30 suites is furnished with coconut wood and teak throughout, underneath a traditional thatched 'alang alang' roof. Accommodation is available in Village, Valley and Pool Suite categories, some with views of the Ayung river gorge and surrounding rice paddies. All feature a living area, wall-sized sliding glass doors that open on three sides, and a private courtyard garden with an outdoor sunken marble bath which is behind a glass door but entirely open to the sky. Resort facilities include a swimming pool, gym, spa, boutique shop and an open-air restaurant. Private yoga classes are available in an outdoor setting with Amandari's own yoga teacher.
