Drive out to the Aman at Summer Palace for lunch, followed by a visit to the Imperial Summer Palace gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the afternoon tour Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, a former imperial palace that served as the home of Chinese emperors for nearly 500 years. (B, L)

Full-day tour of the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu, one of the most well-preserved and stunning sections of the ancient wall. Take a short walk on the wall, where you’ll be able to marvel at the breathtaking views of the rolling hills and rugged terrain. Afterwards, enjoy a champagne picnic in a nearby pine forest. (B, L)

In the morning, relax with a private tai chi lesson at the Temple of Heaven, followed by a tour of the temple. Board a high-speed train to Xian, travelling in First Class. Stay at the Gran Melia Xian for 2 nights. (B)

This morning visit the famed Terracotta Warriors archaeological site, one of China’s most significant and awe-inspiring cultural treasures. Walk through the vast excavation pits and marvel at the life-sized statues of soldiers, horses, and chariots that were buried with China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, to protect him in the afterlife. Fly to Chongqing. Enjoy lunch at a local spicy hotpot known as má là at a local restaurant before boarding the Yangzi Explorer for a 3-night cruise to Yichang. (B, L, D)

Enjoy a range of shore excursions and onboard activities available. Today perhaps visit the Fuling Project 816, White Crane Ridge Underwater Museum, and the Beacon of Three Kingdoms show. (B, L, D)

Today sail across Qutang Gorge then explore Wushan by land or take a boat ride into Daning River, before passing through Wu Gorge. (B, L, D)
