Accommodation rating: Good Standard
Skywells Wuyuan is situated in the tiny village of Yan, a protected 900-year-old, pedestrianised settlement. The Wuyuan Railway Station is just 25 minutes away, with access via direct high-speed trains to Beijing, Shanghai and Huangshan. The property has been renovated from a rare 300-year-old courtyard mansion, lovingly restored using traditional building techniques and retaining original features. One such feature is the hotel's three tall, narrow courtyards known as 'skywells', which are typical of southern Chinese architecture and have given the hotel its name. Hotel facilities are limited, but the charm lies in experiencing a remote and peaceful part of rural China in a unique property. A number of walking trails can be taken out from the hotel to explore the countryside and surrounding villages.
