Built in 2012 in Rangoon (Yangon), the Belmond Orcaella complements the two other Belmond businesses in Burma (Myanmar): the Governor's Residence, which is a 48-room colonial-style hotel in Rangoon, and the Road to Mandalay river cruiser, which has been cruising the Irrawaddy river for 17 years.
Named after the dolphins known to inhabit the Irrawaddy river, the Irrawaddy flotilla-style ship offers a collection of cruises giving passengers access to the heart of this beguiling country. With 40 staff on board and a maximum of 50 guests, this elegant four-deck river cruiser offers unparalleled service and great attention to detail. Each of the 25 spacious river-facing cabins feature air conditioning and en suite facilities, with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and Juliet balconies, providing the perfect frame to the river and its banks. The boat's observation deck offers a dedicated relaxation area with a retractable awning and reclining chairs from which to enjoy the passing scenery, a lounge, bar, swimming pool, fitness centre and treatment rooms. The main deck restaurant has comfortable seating and large picture windows, with two boutiques selling a variety of traditional and local crafts. A medical room and a fully qualified resident doctor are situated on the lower deck.
