Declared 'the finest hostelry east of Suez' by John Murray in his 'Handbook for Travellers' written in the early 20th century, the 1901-built three-storey luxury hotel in Rangoon remains one of south-east Asia's few grand colonial hotels. The hotel takes its name from the Strand Road on which it stands; an ideal location for exploring the city. Rooms are furnished with Burmese lacquerware and antiques, teakwood floors and hand carved wood frame beds, and are attended to by a team of dedicated butlers.
