The Heart of Scandinavia: Stockholm to Trondheim
Itinerary
Arrive Stockholm, Sweden
Arrive in Stockholm, Sweden’s capital and most populous city, where you are privately driven to your centrally located hotel. There is time to independently explore, should you wish to visit the historic centre or stop into one of the excellent restaurants and bars nearby. Or simply relax ahead of tomorrow’s city and canal tour. Overnight in a Standard Room at Hotel At Six (or similar). (N)
Meal basis: As per itinerary – B: Breakfast, L: Lunch, D: Dinner, N: No meal
Stockholm
Explore Stockholm on a three-hour guided tour, assisted by a local guide and private driver. Your tour will include a visit to the historic centre, Gamla Stan, home to the baroque Royal Palace and the 13th-century cathedral of Storkyrkan – the city’s oldest church. Afterwards, entrance to the Vasa Museum allows you to see the preserved hull of a 17th-century warship. This afternoon, admire Stockholm from the water on a canal tour looping around Djurgården island. Overnight in a Standard Room at Hotel At Six (or similar). (B)
Åre
This day is a travel day, bringing you to the scenic slopes of Åre – popular with walkers, skiers and downhill bikers. You are privately driven from your hotel to Stockholm Central railway station, where you ride the train in First Class to Östersund. Upon arrival, you are privately driven to Copperhill Mountain Lodge. Overnight in a Bronze Room at Copperhill Mountain Lodge (or similar). (B)
Åre
Your day is at leisure. Enjoy the facilities of your luxe lodge, where you have access to the spa and a complimentary fika break, or venture out to admire Åre’s scenery – a postcard-worthy picture of mountains and pine forests, gleaming with snow in winter and sprinkled with wildflowers in the warmer months. Overnight in a Bronze Room at Copperhill Mountain Lodge (or similar). (B)
Trondheim, Norway
Today is a travel day. You are privately driven from Åre to Trondheim, crossing the border into neighbouring Norway. Upon arrival at your centrally located hotel, use the remainder of the day to relax, or take a stroll around Trondheim – a fjord-side city of cobblestone streets, riverine views, and Michelin-starred restaurant. Overnight in a Double Superior room at the Britannia Hotel (or similar). (B)
Trondheim
The Nidelva River bisects Trondheim, and today’s boat tour along its course lets you admire the city from the water. Pass through the centre, by historical merchant houses whose colourful wood-clad facades have been preserved, and into Trondheimsfjord – the third-longest fjord in Norway. Overnight in a Double Superior room at the Britannia Hotel (or similar). (B)
Trondheim
Your day is at leisure. Unwind at your hotel or explore more of Trondheim – Norway’s Viking-age capital and more recently a European Region of Gastronomy. It’s a compact, eminently walkable city. A visit to Nidaros Cathedral is a must; the ornate Gothic church is topped by patina-green spires, and sits atop the tomb of Viking king Saint Olaf. Overnight in a Double Superior room at the Britannia Hotel (or similar). (B)
Fly home
After breakfast, you are transferred from your hotel by private vehicle to Trondheim Airport in time for your departure flight. (B)
