Enjoy a day at leisure to explore Germany’s history-rich capital, Berlin, home to landmarks such as the Reichstag and Checkpoint Charlie, as well as an abundance of museums and galleries. Alternatively, visit nearby Potsdam – once the seat of the Prussian and German monarchs, and easily reached by train from Berlin Central Station. (B)
Prague, Czech Republic
Depart Berlin and travel south to Prague by rail. Arrive in Prague and check in at Art Deco Imperial Hotel for 2 nights. (B)

Your day is at leisure to explore Prague, the compact capital of the Czech Republic. Highlights include Prague Castle, with its gothic spire and astronomical clock; the nearby Old Town Square, surrounded by landmarks; and Charles Bridge, whose medieval arches span the Vltava river. (B)

Depart Prague and travel by rail to Vienna. Check in at Hotel Kaiserhof Wien for 2 nights. Rooms for immediate occupancy will be arranged. (B)

Your day is free for exploring Vienna. Austria’s capital is a historic centre of music, and replete with palatial architecture. You may wish to admire the grand Habsburg palaces of Hofburg and Schönbrunn; and St Stephen’s Cathedral, with its lofty tower and striped, multicoloured rooftop; or sample something delicious from the city’s popular konditoreien (patisseries). Munich, Germany
Depart Vienna for Munich by train, then check in at Hotel Excelsior by Geisel for 2 nights. (B)

Today, independently explore Munich at your leisure. Worthy sights include the restored Altstadt (old town), the two townhalls, Frauenkirche cathedral, and Residenz Schloss –which houses the only surviving medieval crown produced in England. (B)
Zurich, Switzerland
Travel from Munich to Zurich by train, and check in at Hotel Adler for 2 nights. (B)

The day is free for you to explore Zurich and its historic centre. The cobbled, walkable old town contains plenty of postcard-worthy sights, including Fraumünster church and its turquoise spire and the twin-towered Grossmünster church. You could also admire the city from the water, with a cruise along the Limmat river. (B)
Return to the UK
Depart Zurich for Paris, before proceeding via Eurostar to London St Pancras. (N)
