Munich
Your day is at leisure to explore Munich, the capital of Bavaria. Germany’s third-largest city is awash with history, especially in its restored old town, the Altstadt. You could stroll between the highlights, such as the lively food market of Viktualienmarkt; the central square of Marienplatz, which is dominated by the gothic New Town Hall and its mechanical glockenspiel; and the Asamkirche, an 18th-century church renowned for its dazzling Late Baroque interior. Along the way, why not wet your whistle in a traditional Bavarian inn, or take an amble in the leafy sprawl of the English Garden? (B)
Munich
Travel out of Munich by private car to Neuschwanstein Castle, pausing en route to explore the picturesque town of Oberammergau, where Passion Plays are performed once every 10 years during Easter. Neuschwanstein is a fairytale castle, rising out of the trees on an Alpine precipice to gaze over a gorge and the green hills beyond. It was built in the 19th century at the behest of King Maximilian II and showcases the Romanesque revival style. (B)
Nuremberg
Journey from Munich to Nuremberg by train. Upon arrival, check in at Le Meridien Nuremberg hotel for 2 nights. (B)
Nuremburg
Enjoy a day at leisure to explore Nuremberg. Bavaria’s second city was flattened during the second world war, but extensive restoration has returned its historic attractions to their former glory. This includes the medieval Nuremberg Castle complex, begun under the Holy Roman Empire, and the fortified city walls. Nuremberg is eminently walkable, especially the old town, with its pretty bridges, cobbled streets and timber-framed buildings. For insight into the city’s association with the Nazi Party, visit the Nuremberg Palace of Justice, which preserves one of the courtrooms used during the Nuremberg Trials; and the unnerving former rally grounds of the Nazi Party. (B)
Mariánské Lázně, Czech Republic
Travel via private driver to the Czech Republic, arriving in the spa town of Mariánské Lázně. Pause en route for lunch at leisure in the picturesque town of Cheb. Stay at Ensana Nové Lázně, a historic spa hotel, for 2 nights. (B)
Mariánské Lázně
Enjoy a day at leisure to explore the historic centre of Mariánské Lázně, a favourite of the Habsburg emperors and Britain’s Edward VII. Mariánské Lázně is recognised by UNESCO as one of the great spa towns of Europe, and its springs continue to gush – including the Singing Fountain, with its regular programme of performances. (B)
Prague
Drive from Mariánské Lázně to Prague, via the historic city of Pilsen, where you will have free time to explore at leisure. Continue to Prague and check in at Art Deco Imperial Hotel for 2 nights. (B)
Prague
Enjoy a day at leisure to explore Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The city is compact, walkable, and paved with history, from the medieval Charles Bridge to the towering Prague Castle, with its menacing gothic spires and beloved astronomical clock. Further highlights include St Vitas Cathedral, the ever-shifting Franz Kafka Statue, Petrin and its Eiffel Tower-esque lookout, and the Old Town Square. (B)

Transfer to Prague Airport and fly to London, or take a sleeper train to London St Pancras via Vienna and Brussels. (B)
