Located on the Bothnian Coast, the town of Luleå is an excellent destination for outdoor pursuits. One of the principal reasons for this is that Luleå is situated in an archipelago of over 800 islands which is a haven for wildlife.
During the winter months, the archipelago freezes over and this offers a wide choice of winter activities to its visitors. Just outside Luleå lies the village of Gammelstad, which is a Unesco world heritage site due to its magnificent medieval stone church, which is surrounded by over 400 wooden cottages.
