Steeped in history, Cordoba is a city of stunning Moorish architecture, ancient palaces, beautiful parks and gardens, monuments and flower-filled courtyards. Ten centuries ago it was the capital of Muslim Spain and Europe’s largest cultural and intellectual centre.
Today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cordoba still retains traces of its Moorish legacy, the most spectacular of which is its grand and beautiful mosque, the Mezquita. Other places of historic interest include the 14th century Alcazar and La Juderia, the old Jewish quarter with its labyrinth of narrow, winding streets, pretty squares and courtyards.
