Located on the shores of Lake Bled and in the foothills of the Julian mountains, Bled is a charming small town. Highlights include Bled castle, perched high on a craggy bluff. Originally built in the 11th century, the castle is enclosed by a Romanesque wall with well-preserved towers and parapets. The town and castle look across to Bled Island, which can be reached by stretch gondolas and is home to the exquisite Church of the Assumption.
