The Prince of Wales purchased his first Transylvanian property in 2006 - an 18th-century Saxon house in the village of Viscri - and again in 2010 in the village of Zalanpatak. The surrounding countryside offers various activities such as botanical excursions, hiking and horse riding.

Day 2: Bucharest

Morning tour of Bucharest. View the Old Princely Court, the Royal Palace and visit the Palace of the Parliament, which is the third largest building in the world. Afternoon at leisure. (B)

Day 3: Zalanpatak

Morning drive to Transylvania. Afternoon at leisure. Stay 3 nights at Malancrav Manor in Zalanpatak village. (B, D)

Day 4: Brasov • Bran

Full-day tour to the medieval town of Brasov to view the Piata Sfatului, one of the finest baroque squares in the country with a 15thcentury town hall. Visit the Black Church, the largest gothic church between Vienna and Istanbul, which has a collection of more than 300 Ottoman rugs. See St Nicholas’ Church and visit Romania’s first school. Continue to Bran castle. (B, D)

Day 6: Bucharest

Morning at leisure. Afternoon drive to Bucharest and overnight at the Athénée Palace Hilton. (B)

    Count Kalnoky Manor

    Originally built for the former "judge" who oversaw the glass manufacture in the village during the 17th and 18th centuries, this Saxon farmhouse complex was purchased by HRH, The Prince of Wales in conjunction with Count Kálnoky in 2010. It is comprised of several farmhouse buildings and offers five double rooms with en suite bathrooms to its guests. The centre point of Count Kálnoky Manor is the main house, which offers a dining and drawing room, which features a 7-metre-high ceiling and a large fireplace. Due to its location in woodland, the property has a rich biodiversity with mineral springs, small brooks and extensive flower meadows.

    Built in 1914, the luxury Athenee Palace Hilton Bucharest is located in central Bucharest and is one of the city's historic landmarks.
