Situated approximately 90 km west of Longyearbyen, the Basecamp Explorer Isfjord Radio Station was once an important telecommunications link between the Norwegian mainland and the inhabitants of Svalbard. The station has since been renovated and become a new boutique country hotel located out in the wild wilderness of Spitsbergen. The hotel offers 23 bright and comfortable rooms featuring Scandinavian décor and wooden floors with shared facilities located across four buildings. The hotel has a restaurant with breath-taking views over the Isfjorden towards Greenland where the chef prepares a filling daily breakfast, 2-course or 3-course dinner in the evenings. There is also a fully licensed bar serving a full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as a special Radio Wine. Due to the isolated nature of the property, the hotel prefers credit cards payments over Norwegian cash, if possible. Other facilities include an extensive library of arctic books, fire place and a sauna.
