Equalling Venice as a seafaring and trading town in the 13th and 14th centuries, Kotor was originally founded by Greek colonists. With its seven islands, the bay sharing the town’s name extends about 30 km inland and is considered to be one of the most beautiful along the Adriatic coast. An imposing 5 km long wall encloses the town, which extends as far as the Sveti Ivan fortress.
