Located on the eastern shore of Lake Ohrid, is the town of Ohrid. This Unesco world heritage site is known as the Macedonian Jerusalem due to the large number of churches. The town has been ruled by numerous empires, Roman, Slav, Bulgarian and Ottoman, due to its location and being a holy centre for the region.
