Cagliari

Explore Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia from the 14th century until 1848. Visit the Palazzo Regio, built for the Viceroys of the Spanish kings who once ruled the island; as well as Cagliari’s impressive 13th-century cathedral, with its Romanesque façade. (B)

Nora

Drive to the ancient city of Nora, founded by the Romans on the site of an earlier Phoenician settlement and later ruled by both the Vandals and Byzantines. Proceed to the impressive limestone rock formations of Zuddas cave, which was once quarried for marble. (B)

Oliena

Morning drive to the Marmilla region and the town of Oliena. En route, visit the Bronze Age archaeological site of Su Nuraxi in Barumini. Stay overnight at the Su Gologone Hotel. (B)

Nuoro • Arzachena

Morning drive to the less-visited town of Nuoro, where you can visit the archaeological museum and its collection of significant findings. Continue your drive north to the picturesque town of Arzachena. Stay at the Grand Relais dei Nuraghi hotel for 4 nights. (B) 

Arzachena

Full day at leisure. You are well placed to experience the beautiful beaches of the Costa Smeralda, as well as exploring more of northern Sardinia’s ancient sites and historic towns. Or simply relax and soak up the atmosphere of Arzachena. (B)

Emerald Coast

Visit the chic coastal resort of Porto Cervo, followed by La Maddalena, a pretty town once used as a base by Horatio Nelson; or the island of Caprera, famous as the home of Giuseppe Garibaldi – one of the fathers of Italy’s unification. (B)

Arzachena

Full day at leisure. Your hire car puts you in easy reach of many attractions, allowing you to freely explore more of northern Sardinia and its gorgeous scenery. (B)

Olbia • Fly home

Drive to Olbia airport and drop off your hire car. Fly home. (B)
