Itinerary
Fly to Venice • Padua
Fly to Venice, pick up your hire car and drive to the historic Grand Hotel Italia (or similar) for 4 nights. Traditional welcome dinner. (D)

Montagnana • Arquà Petrarca
Depart for Montagnana, a 14th-century walled town known for its high walls and moat. Take a tour of the borgo and enjoy a wine tasting in the medieval cellar of the castle. After lunch, continue to Arquà Petrarca, the home of Renaissance poet Francesco Petrarch, before returning to the hotel in Padua. (B)
Vicenza
Visit the peaceful Renaissance city of Vicenza, notable for its 16th-century Teatro Olimpico and Basilica, and famous for its textiles. Guided tour and time at leisure. (B)
Padua
Full day to explore Padua, one of Italy’s finest small cities, which once vied with Verona and Venice for dominance of the Veneto region. A highlight is the Scrovegni Chapel with its fresco cycle by Giotto. Take a 3-hour walking tour followed by time at leisure. (B)
Collio wine route
Travel along the wine route in the Collio area, making a stop in Ruttars, known for its excellent trattorias (traditional Italian eateries). Continue to the 12th-century Hotel Castello di Spessa (or similar) in the Gradisca d’Isonzo area for a 3-night stay. (B)
Valvasone • Spilimbergo • San Danieledel Friuli
Today you will visit three historic borgos of the Friuli region: Valvasone, dating back to the 13th century; Spilimbergo, whose cathedral is considered the most important gothic building in Friuli for its enchanting frescos; and, finally, San Daniele, with its endless views over rolling countryside. Stops for wine, chocolate and ham tastings are all included. (B)
Trieste
Full day to explore Trieste, once the main port for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Take a 3-hour guided tour of the city and its exquisite neoclassical, art nouveau and baroque architecture, followed by free time to explore independently. Dinner at a local restaurant or at the hotel. (B, D)
Venice • Fly home
Drive to Venice airport and drop off your hire car. Fly home. (B)
