Set within 1.8 sq km of cultivated land and olive groves, Borgo San Marco is the family home of Alessandro Amati, a major producer of extra virgin olive oil. The masseria, a fortified farmhouse, was built by the Knights of Malta in the 15th century and restored and opened as a hotel in 2001. The owner has retained and emphasised many features of the original buildings, including vaulted ceilings, arches and original flooring in the local stone, Pietra di Lecce.
The hotel features 16 simply furnished, air-conditioned suites, decorated with a few antique pieces. The terraced restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine and a buffet breakfast can be enjoyed outside in the summer months. The lounge bar and reading room, housed in the original stables, feature an authentic olive press. Health facilities include a swimming pool, sun terrace and the Borgo Aquae wellness centre, home to a steam bath, whirlpool and treatment rooms. The Adriatic coast's sandy beaches and Egnazia golf course are just a 2km-drive away, while the towns of Savelletri and Torre Canne are both easily accessed from the hotel.
