While the Parthenon represents the ‘golden age’ of Athens urban planning, the Romans, Byzantines and Venetians also left their architectural legacy in the city. Beneath a skyline of elegant neoclassical facades and whitewashed houses, the historic Plaka quarter is a vibrant and colourful combination of antique shops, market stalls and pavement tavernas. Modern Athens, which received a face-lift in 2004 when it once more became the host for the Olympics, is also fascinating to explore.

"I had a wonderful time on your Classical Greece Tour. It exceeded all my expectations. The itinerary was well thought out and included the most important sites of mainland Greece. The hotels were in excellent positions for exploring the sites and museums. Our tour guide, Marina, was amazing. Her personality was delightful. She was entertaining and her knowledge of the history and mythology of ancient Greece was truly remarkable; her passion for the places we visited brought them to life. It was a truly unforgettable experience. I had the best time ever! Thank you Cox & Kings."
