Rovaniemi has unique status for a town, as it the home for Santa Claus. The town is visited annually by thousands of tourists to catch a glimpse of him in his log cabin. It is the capital of Finland’s northernmost province, Lapland, and is situated close to the Arctic Circle. Rovaniemi is also an excellent destination for viewing the Northern Lights, the natural event which occurs between September to March.
