Enjoy the beaches

With a coastline of 7,400km and some of the best unspoilt beaches in the world, the west coast of Jutland is one the most visited areas for tourists due to mile upon mile of unbroken white sandy beaches.

Visit Tivoli Gardens

Opened in 1843, it is the largest amusement park in Scandinavia and the second oldest in the world. The park also contains a host of cultural attractions, including a concert hall and pantomime theatre.

Read Hamlet at Elsinore

The castle of Kronborg is the setting for William Shakespeare’s celebrated play about a Danish prince, Hamlet. This castle is an excellent example of Renaissance architecture and is a Unesco world heritage site.

View the Jelling stones

Inscribed to the Unesco world heritage list, these massive carved runestones date from the 10th century and celebrate a Danish king’s conversion to Christianity from Norse paganism. The stones are located in the village of Jelling, which is situated in southern Denmark.

Understand Viking heritage

The Vikings are renowned for their fierce warriors and sailing abilities. Take a day trip from Copenhagen to the town of Roskilde to view two of the most significant Viking exhibitions. The Viking ship museum contains a fine array of replica ships and maps of their journeys around Europe and to America. The Lejre Experimental centre has a recreated a Viking village and is a living history museum.
