Spend five relaxing days on the remote island of Losinj in the northern Adriatic off Croatia's Istrian peninsula, staying at the historic Boutique Hotel Alhambra. Beautifully restored after years of neglect, this grand sea-facing hotel offers luxurious accommodation in an early 20th-century mansion, hidden among pine trees on this beautiful island paradise.
Morning flight to Rijeka or Pula. Travel to the
Boutique Hotel Alhambra on the island of
Lošinj, a beautiful 2-hour transfer by car and
ferry. Private 30-minute plane transfers are
also available aboard a Piper or Cessna aircraft
(£380 per person). The remainder of the day
is at leisure to relax at the hotel or explore the
town of Mali Lošinj, a few minutes’ walk from
the hotel. (N)
Today is at leisure to relax or explore the island
of Lošinj with a private guide (this can easily be
booked locally). A 2-hour excursion includes
picturesque Veli Lošinj, with its colourful
houses and huge church at the mouth of the
harbour. For those who choose to stay at
the hotel there is a spa offering a range of
treatments and a private swimming platform
with loungers and drinks service. Guests
can also use the facilities of the larger sister
property, Hotel Bellevue, located 200 metres
along the promenade. (B)
A highlight of the main town on the island,
Mali Lošinj, is the Museum of Apoxyomenos,
shortlisted for European Museum of the Year
in 2019. The perfectly curated small museum
tells the story of the discovery and restoration
of the Croatian Apoxyomenos, an Ancient Greek
statue cast in bronze in the second century BC,
found on the seabed off Lošinj in 1996. Take
a tour and relax in one of the cafes lining the
harbour, or take a cruise, passing the site of
the statue’s discovery. (B)
Final day at leisure for optional activities. Take a hike to St Ivan’s Peak for stunning views
across to the islands of Cres and Krk and even
as far as Italy. There is also the option of a
private sunset cruise to the small island of
Susak with dinner and sparkling wine. (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)
