The largest island in Dalmatia, Brac has been governed by Byzantine and then Venetian rule. The island is renowned for its precious white stone, which was used in building Diocletian’s Palace in Split. It has the tallest peak in the Adriatic, the Vidova Gora, at 778 metres. The island is accessible by ferry from Split, taking approximately 1 hour to the pretty harbour town of Supetar. Zlatni Rat, often referred to as the Golden Cape, is possibly the most famous beach on the Adriatic; located on the island’s southern shore, it is loved by locals and visitors alike for its clear waters and wide beach.
