Visit the open air theatrical show in Tashkent which depicts the lifestyles, traditions and music of authentic Uzbek people.
Join the locals and take a trip on the Tashkent underground. Tashkent was the first city in Central Asia to construct an underground system and its stations are some of the most ornate.
The birthplace of 14th-century warlord Timur (or Tamerlane), this once great city has long since declined, but impressive monuments remain – including the site of his summer residence.
Make sure to stop in the town of Margilan in the Fergana valley where you can watch the production of silk at the Yodgorlik silk factory.
During your visit, be sure to look out for locally made handicrafts. Choose from unique glazed ceramics in Gijduvan or suzani (silk and cotton coverlets) in Shakhrisabz, wander the bazaars of Bukhara and watch skilled craftsmen at work in Samarkand where beautiful fabrics, carpets, leather and jewellery are all on offer.
