The former convent of Santa Catalina (declared a historic monument by Unesco) is located conveniently about four blocks from the main square and is close to shopping, dining, museums and galleries. Sympathetically converted to the Quinta Real Oaxaca, the convent, originally built in 1576, now holds 91 guestrooms on two floors. All rooms are tastefully decorated with Mexican weavings and crafts. Spanish baroque architecture and authentic colonial touches will take you back in time. Breakfast is served in the garden and the pool is enclosed in a beautiful courtyard.
