Posada el Castillo is a quirky mock-Gothic castle designed and built by surrealist architect Plutarco Gastelum, close the main square in Xilitla. The property's architecture features a whimsical mix of Mexican, surreal and Gothic styles and was the one-time home of Gastelum's friend, the eccentric British artist and millionaire Edward James. El Castillo is now a guest house run by the family of Gastelum and offers 8 comfortable rooms with en suite bathrooms and ceiling fans and a restaurant serving Mexican cuisine. The gardens and patios are filled with tropical plants and there is a small swimming pool, tennis court and a games room. The property features a number of original pieces of artwork and furniture designed by the British artist Lenora Carrington.
