Hotel Cartesiano has a superb location in the historic centre of Puebla, just a 5-minute walk from the main square and cathedral. It is comprised of two beautifully restored colonial mansions, one of which was originally a tile factory, and a third modern addition. Much of the property’s original architecture has been carefully preserved with stone arches, colourful mosaic tiles and an interior courtyard filled with plants and water features. Rooms are individually designed in light woods and muted colours. All are stylish and contemporary, but the rooms in the historic mansions also feature partially exposed original stone walls and brickwork. Guests can relax by the rooftop pool and enjoy fantastic views of the city’s rooftops, domed churches and, on a clear day, the smoking Popocatepetl volcano in the distance. The adjacent bar also offers an ideal spot to enjoy a cocktail at sundown. The restaurant serves a creative menu of contemporary Mexican fare as well as international cuisine, and there is a more informal courtyard cafe serving breakfast and lunch.
