Days 3-4: Lake AtitlánDrive to Lake Atitlán, via a coffee farm to learn about the importance of coffee in Guatemala’s history, as well as the Mayan Traditions Museum. Explore the lake on a full-day tour visiting traditional villages inhabited by colourfully dressed locals. (B)
Day 5: Chichicastenango • AntiguaVisit the vibrant market of Chichicastenango, one of the most famous indigenous markets in Central America, where hundreds of Mayan people from nearby villages come to trade their wares. Return to Antigua. (B, L)
Day 6: LivingstonTransfer to Puerto Barrios, visiting the Mayan stelae site of Quirigua en route, and take a boat along the coast to Livingston. (B, L)
Days 7-8: Livingston • El PeténExplore Livingston and take a scenic tour of the Dulce river gorges. Transfer to the jungle region of El Petén and take a half-day tour of the magnificent Mayan temples at Tikal. (B, L)
Day 9: Fly to Guatemala CityOptional morning tour of the nearby ruins of Yaxha, located on the shore of a lagoon. Fly to Guatemala City for a night (or continue by road to Belize). (B)

Villa Maya is located amidst the rainforest on the shores of the Petenchel Lagoon, just 15 minutes from Flores airport and 1 hour from the ruins of Tikal. Rooms are situated in two or three-storey white-washed buildings, surrounded by tropical gardens. Relax on the sun terrace, cool off the pool or stroll along the nature trails that wind through the tropical grounds.
The Hotel Villa Caribe is located between the Caribbean Sea and the Rio Dulce inlet. This simple hotel has 45 rooms set in tropical gardens, all with a balcony and view of the sea or river. There is also a large pool, outdoor bar with terrace, and restaurant.
Hotel Atitlán is set on a picturesque ancient coffee plantation on the shores of Lake Atitlán, with spectacular views of both the lake and the surrounding volcanoes. The individually designed rooms have balconies with lake views and are traditionally furnished with locally handcrafted furniture and hand-woven Mayan textiles. The hotel features beautifully maintained botanical gardens with over 600 species of plants.
El Meson de Maria is a lovely small hotel, located in an old house in the centre of historic Antigua. It offers real local character and traditional furnishings. The rooms and suites are decorated with local crafts, and the suites include a private terrace and jacuzzi. The hotel features a central courtyard and terraces on which to relax and appreciate the views of the old town and surrounding volcanoes. This is a character property and individual room styles and sizes will vary. Breakfast is served in the dining room or courtyard, and while other meals are not available at the hotel, many of the local restaurants will deliver meals which you can then enjoy in the dining areas of the property, or your room.
