Located on the Caribbean coast the town of Livingston is an anomaly in Guatemala, with a population of black Guatamalans who speak Garifuna and a laid back Belizean way of life amongst the coconut groves. In the town there is an interesting museum of Garifuna life, with displays of art and implements of daily life. A boat trip along the Dulce river, running from Lake Izabal to Livingston on the Caribbean coast, passes changing landscapes of rainforest, canyon cliffs and gorges.
