Accommodation rating: Good Standard
Situated approximately 15km inland from the Caribbean coast, Selva Bananito Lodge is built on family farm which adjoins a 2000-acre private reserve of protected rainforest. Accommodation is in the form of traditional Caribbean-style stilted wooden cabins, built from reclaimed waste wood, reinforcing the lodge's sustainable ethos. The cabins are simple but spacious and each features a terrace with hammock, with views of the surrounding vegetation. The lodge strives to create a tranquil and relaxing ambience and there is no electricity for this reason. Instead, lighting and hot water are solar powered, and any charging requirements are fulfilled in the main office. Dining is a social experience in a communal dining room in the main lodge, just a short distance down the main road. Optional activities at the lodge include bird watching and guided rainforest walks.
