Knight Inlet is a 100-km-long fjord in the coastal mountains, a pristine wilderness and the native habitat of the grizzly bear. Situated 60km from the mouth of the inlet and tucked into Glendale Cove, Knight Inlet Lodge is a floating lodge reached only by seaplane. The lodge is a modern one storey facility consisting of five floating platforms supporting the lodge's guestrooms and facilities, and finished with western cedar board and batten siding to give it a real west coast British Columbia look and feel. Rooms are clean and comfortable but amenities are limited, as the real attraction for visitors is the lodge location and its access to the wildlife. Every spring, when the bears come out of hibernation, they can be viewed from boats on the banks of Glendale Cove, including regulars like Frank the brown bear. In the autumn the bears feed on the returning salmon to the Glendale river and can be seen from a specially constructed platform. Guests can join guided tours for bear watching, whale watching and sea kayaking. Packages can be booked to include one night in Campbell River, floatplane transfers, meals and excursions.
