Hawke’s Bay is one of New Zealand’s leading food and wine regions. It is the country’s oldest winemaking region its leading producer of award winning red wines. Located on the east coast of the North Island, the varied landscapes comprise the high, forested Ruahine and Kawkeka Ranges, the Heretaunga Plains, wide rivers that are excellent for fishing and glorious beaches, which stretch from Mahia in the north to Porangahau in the south. It is also home to a world-class concentration of Art Deco architecture, a vibrant arts scene and rich Maori culture. With over 2200 hours of sunshine, Hawke’s Bay is a year-round destination; walk along one of the 17 heritage trails, fish for brown and rainbow trout or play golf at one of the 20 local courses.
