For many travellers to French Polynesia Tahiti is simply the gateway at the beginning and end of a stay in the islands but there is much more to the island of Tahiti than that. The small capital city Papeete can easily be navigated on foot and an evening visit to the food stalls at Place Vaiete Roulottes on the waterfront is a must. Outside of the capital, Tahiti has lots to offer from rugged tropical landscapes to the Paul Gauguin Museum on the south coast.
