Accommodation rating: Exceptional
The Brando is situated on the private island of Tetiaroa, the exclusive and favoured retreat of Tahitian royalty over the centuries. In 1962, during the filming of Mutiny on the Bounty, the actor Marlon Brando fell in love with the island and bought it soon after. Over the years a plan was formed to turn the island into the world's first and foremost post-carbon luxury resort, finally realised with the hotels opening in 2014. A picture-book paradise, Tetiaroa is an island of white sand beaches, coconut palms and colourful birds, with a sparkling lagoon. Accommodation is in 1-, 2- or 3-bed villas, all designed to blend into and enhance the serenity of the natural surroundings. Villas include a separate sitting room, media room, walk-through dressing area, spacious bedroom and bathroom with an outdoor bathtub, and a private plunge pool. Rates include all meals, most beverages, one excursion and one spa treatment per person per day, laundry service, wireless internet access, and access to the hotel's outrigger canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, bicycles and snorkelling equipment.
