Accommodation rating: Superior

Situated in the centre of old Broome and within a short walk of shops, restaurants, galleries, museums and other attractions of the town, Pinctada McAlpine House is a historic and traditional guesthouse, originally built in 1910. Formerly the family home of a pearling master, Herbert Kennedy, and then the country residence of Lord Alistair McAlpine, the beautifully renovated two-storey bungalow complex is surrounded by a lush tropical garden and has all the homely charm of a bed and breakfast and the sophistication of a resort. The eight guestrooms and suites each have their own style and private outdoor space. The property has an outdoor swimming pool and landscaped gardens. It does not have a restaurant for evening meals, but is within walking distance of a number of good dining options.
