his journey explores two of Africa's most remote and unspoilt wilderness areas. The Selous Game Reserve is close to sea level and, with the Great Rufiji river flowing through it, has a tropical ambience. Selous Impala Camp offers wildlife viewing in open 4x4 vehicles, on foot, and by boat when you are likely to drift past pods of hippos and large numbers of crocodiles. The Selous is an excellent wildlife experience with a healthy population of wild dogs and more than 450 bird species. By contrast, Ruaha National Park is higher and more mountainous. The animals here are very relaxed, especially the elephants. Other wildlife highlights include lions, wild dogs and leopards. Kwihala Camp offers 4x4 safari drives, guided walks and fishing trips.
The itinerary ends on the deserted shores of the Indian Ocean, just 25km south of Dar es Salaam in a property called Ras Kutani. Constructed from locally sustainable natural materials, the accommodation blends seamlessly into Ras Kutani's exquisite environment, offering al fresco luxury living with a Swahili twist. The soul of Ras Kutani emanates from the never-ending stretches of creamy white sand, broken only by footprints and the lapping of the cool blue waves.
