Accommodation rating: Luxury
In the untouched seclusion of a remote, idyllic valley in the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park, 50km east of Lake Victoria, lies the tented Grumeti River Camp. Flanked by two hillsides, the camp nestles beneath tall riverine trees on the banks of an oxbow tributary of the Grumeti River. It is one of the wildest and most remote camps in Africa's greatest wildlife sanctuary, the Serengeti. The sweep of flamboyant tents under thatch, the vibrancy of kente cloth and local sculptured furnishings bring alive the excitement and romance of Africa. Each of the 10 spacious twin-bedded tents, complete with en-suite bathrooms and outdoor showers, lie along the banks of the river and hippo pools. Public areas include a shady open-fronted dining area, a lounge area and a plunge pool on the river bank. A special feature is the sheltered boma where dinner is served.
Activities include game-drives in the Serengeti National Park. Day trips to Lake Victoria (Rubondo Island) are available at an additional cost and may be booked directly at the lodge.
