Tswalu Kalahari Private Game Reserve, owned by the Oppenheimer family, is South Africa’s largest private game reserve, covering an area of over 100,000 hectares. Here, conservation is an absolute priority and no more than thirty guests at a time can discover the beauty of this landscape and its diverse wildlife. Within the park you can drive across red dunes to search for rare and endangered game, such as the elusive desert black rhino and the black-maned Kalahari lions, explore unique archaeological sites, sleep out under Africa’s night sky or indulge in a spa treatment. Hot-air ballooning is also possible in this area.

Horseback safaris are a special way to experience the Tswalu Kalahari Private Game Reserve. Discover the Kalahari in the way early explorers would have done, you will find that much of the wildlife reacts differently to your presence. Gentle walks along the reserve's grassy plains and rolling dunes can be enjoyed in the late afternoon, with the setting sun creating breathtaking colours that create a special atmosphere across the arid savannah. The horses at the reserve accommodate riders of all abilities and levels of experience.
Wildlife drives in the Tswalu Kalahari Private Game Reserve can be tailored to guests' particular interests and needs, with no set routes or times. Meerkat viewing is also possible, with two thriving colonies in the reserve.
