Samara Private Game Reserve At 70,000 acres in size, Samara Private Game Reserve is one of the largest private reserves in South Africa. It encompasses four of South Africa’s biomes; grassland, nama karoo, valley thicket and savannah and is rich in shepherd trees, some of which are over 700 years old. This diverse habitat attracts a range of different game. The reserve is focused on reintroducing protected species and as a result it has a healthy population of cheetah, cape mountain zebra, white rhino, black wildebeest, red hartebeest and a range of other smaller mammals such as vervet monkeys and meerkats.

Despite being one of the most widespread mammals in Africa, aardvarks are also one of the hardest creatures to view. Samara Private Game Reserve is renowned for its night safaris, during which you will have a good chance of spotting this shy and elusive creature. As with all wildlife, sightings cannot be guaranteed, however the winter months tend to be the best time to engage in an aardvark safari.
