Conveniently situated between South Africa and Mozambique, the Kingdom of Eswatini is often referred to as the ‘Switzerland of Africa’ as it combines mountainous grandeur and lush forests with fertile valleys and African lowveld. It has some excellent wildlife reserves including Hlane Royal National Park, which is home to white rhino, lion and many antelope species and Mkhaya Game Reserve, where you can search for black rhino.
The Ezulwini & Malkern valleys are renowned for their handicrafts and as the homeland of Swazi royalty, where traditional tribal values have always been maintained, with the distinctive national dress regularly worn by all and colourful ceremonies marking special occasions. The country’s predominant religion is Christianity, along with ethnic beliefs and practices – the Inyanga remains a very powerful figure amongst many communities.
