Day 1: Fly to Johannesburg

Fly overnight from London (regional connections available) to Johannesburg. (N)

Day 2: Johannesburg

After arrival, you are introduced to the city of Pretoria with a guided tour, followed by lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer to your hotel for the rest of the day at leisure. Later, attend your welcome dinner. Overnight at Radisson Red Rosebank (or similar). (L, D)

Day 3: Johannesburg

The life of South Africa’s most famous politician takes centre stage today. Led by an expert guide, discover places that shaped NelsonMandela’s life on a tour through Alexandra township, Liliesleaf Farm and Soweto. The rest of your day is at leisure. Overnight at Radisson Red Rosebank (or similar). (B, L)

Day 4: Hazyview

Transfer to the town of Hazyview, a popular gateway for Kruger National Park. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at Perry‘s Bridge Hollow (or similar). (B, L, D)

Day 5: Kruger National Park

Spend the next two days enjoying a variety of morning and afternoon safari activities in the world-famous Kruger National Park. As you seek out the ‘Big Five’, learn about their natural habitats as well as the conservation efforts protecting them. Overnight at Perry‘s Bridge Hollow (or similar). (B, L, D)

Day 6: Kruger National Park

Day 7: Swaziland

Transfer overland to Swaziland, clearing border formalities en route, and arrive at Ezulwini Valley (‘Place of Heaven’). Its attractions include restaurants, hot springs, craft markets, art galleries, riding stables, a nature reserve, a golf course and a cultural village. The rest of your day is at leisure. Overnight at Mantenga Lodge(or similar). (B, L)

Day 8: Mkuze, ZuluLand

Continue through Swaziland, stopping enroute at the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary and a traditional village. After completing border formalities, cross into South Africa, where you enjoy a safari drive in the uMkhuze Game Reserve, and a South African barbecue (braai) with Zulu entertainment. Overnight at Ghost Mountain Inn. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Mkuze, ZuluLand

Meet your guide for an early morning safari drive in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, one of South Africa’s oldest reserves. Enjoy lunch at your hotel ahead of a special cultural experience, which includes a visit to a local homestead. Overnight at Ghost Mountain Inn. (B, L, D)

Day 10: KwaZulu-Natal’s historic battlefields

Enjoy a cruise on Lake Jozini before travelling to KwaZulu-Natal’s famous battlefields, which you will begin exploring tomorrow. Overnight at Rorke’s Drift Hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 11: KwaZulu-Natal’s historic battlefields

Spend the day with a specialist battlefield guide as you visit the staging grounds of two important Anglo-Zulu battles. Overnight at Rorke’s Drift Hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 12: Port Elizabeth via Durban

Transfer to King Shaka Airport in Durban for your indirect flight to Port Elizabeth via O. R. Tambo Airport, then check in to your hotel. The city of Port Elizabeth boasts gorgeous beaches, interesting museums and memorials, award-winning wildlife destinations, and a convivial atmosphere. Overnight at The Beach Hotel. (B)

Day 13: Tsitsikamma & Knysna

En route to Knysna, visit Tsitsikamma National Park – famed for its rugged, coastal beauty – and dine locally. Then continue along the Garden Route, home to rare fynbos flowers, ancient forests, art communes, golf courses, shopping centres, mountain hideaways and beautiful beaches. After arriving in Knysna, the rest of your day is at leisure. Overnight at Knysna Hollow Country Estate. (B, L, D)

Day 14: Knysna

Today, dine as you explore the Knysna Lagoon aboard the John Benn, a double-decker floating restaurant offering daily cruises to the Knysna Heads. Overnight at Knysna Hollow Country Estate. (B, L)

Day 15: Oudtshoorn

Transfer overland to Oudtshoorn, known as the ‘ostrich capital of the world’. En route, visit the stalactite-filled Cango Caves for an hour-long tour, followed by a delectable lunch. Round off your day’s activities with a visit to one of Oudtshoorn’s many ostrich farms. Overnight at Queen‘s Hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 16: Cape Town

Continue overland towards Cape Town via the famous Route 62, passing through farming towns such as Calitzdorp, Ladismith, Amalienstein, Zoar and the fruit- and wineproducing towns of Barrydale, Montagu and Ashton. Arrive in historic Cape Town this afternoon. Overnight at Cape Milner. (B)

Day 17: Cape Town

Embark on a full-day guided tour of the ‘Mother City’, including visits to Table Mountain (weather permitting) and lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the historic Constantia wine-producing region for a cellar tour and wine tasting. Return to the hotel for an evening at leisure. Overnight at Cape Milner. (B, L)

Day 18: Cape Town

Venture to the coastal outskirts of Cape Town during a day tour of the Cape Peninsula, which includes a visit to Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. See the eminently photogenic penguins of Boulders Beach and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Return to the hotel this afternoon and enjoy a final farewell dinner. Overnight at Cape Milner. Day 19: Cape Town - Fly to London

Spend your last day at leisure. You may wish to visit Robben Island, Mandela’s former prison turned UNESCO-listed museum; or perhaps enjoy a stroll on one of the many tempting beaches. Later, transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your return flight. (B)
