Thonga Beach Lodge is located close to Lake Sibaya (Southern Africa's largest freshwater lake) on the Maputaland coast in north-east KwaZulu Natal. This area is part of the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park, now internationally recognised as a world heritage site. Situated on vegetated dunes at the back of an incredibly remote and beautiful beach, this wonderful place is probably the most idyllic beach lodge in the country. Thonga Beach Lodge is a luxurious version of the classic Robinson Crusoe hideaway. Traditional Thonga fishing villages provided the inspiration for this retreat. Pleasant public areas include a small pool and there are eight comfortable guest bungalows. Activities include excellent snorkelling and diving, turtle tracking, boating on Lake Sibaya and wonderful walks in this pristine coastal area.
